Elsevier announces winners of 6th annual scientific awards

Elsevier has announced the recipients of its annual International Brain Mapping and Intraoperative Surgical Planning Society (IBMISPS) awards.

The firm, which publishes scientific, technical and medical information products, organises the awards jointly with the IBMISPS and the sixth installment is due to be held between August 26th and 29th.

Elsevier has revealed that the young investigator award, which recognises a senior postgraduate student of basic neuroscience, will go to Vicky Yamamoto, who has conducted work on stem cells.

The pioneer in healthcare policy accolade, which is reserved for lawmakers contributing to the advancement of education, technology and science, will go to Senator John Kerry and William A Hawkins, the chairman of Medtronic.

Elsevier this week revealed the findings of research into the issue of childhood weight gain which concluded that adolescents with highly restrictive parents and low levels of self-control are the most likely to become obese.
