Elsevier launches Scopus app for iPhone

17th May 2010

Elsevier is launching a new application for the Apple iPhone which allows users to access its Scopus database of abstracts and citations.

The medical information provider’s new Scopus Alerts (Lite) app is designed to allow scientists to access information from around 18,000 journals without the need to use a desktop or laptop computer.

It is the first of a number of planned Elsevier iPhone apps, with the company stating that it will reveal further details of its in-development ScienceDirect application later this summer.

Niels Weertman, vice-president of product management for Scopus at Elsevier, said these applications will help to cater to demand among research professionals for more easily accessible data.

He added: “We are excited to help meet this need by helping researchers across the globe stay connected to the latest scientific knowledge no matter where they are.”

This comes after Elsevier was presented with a JISC TechDis Publisher Lookup Award earlier this month in honour of the accessibility of its products and services.
