Elsevier launches web-based research evaluation tool

17th March 2011

Elsevier has announced the launch of a new online tool that allows users to evaluate research teams or individual researchers.

The web-based SciVal Strata service is designed for use by decision makers in academic and governmental organisations, using information from the Scopus database to compare the performance of researchers across the globe and their expected impact on teams.

This will aid recruitment, promotion and collaboration processes, while also making it easier for participating institutions to demonstrate research excellence and secure funding.

Jay Katzen, managing director of Elsevier Academic and Government Products, said SciVal Strata allows informed decisions to be made and measures research performance in a way that was not previously possible.

"This new approach will empower users to more accurately assess research performance according to criteria most important to them and help justify funding, hiring decisions and partner opportunities," he explained.

Elsevier also announced this week that it is making a large selection of fungal cell biology movies from its Fungal Biology Reviews freely available to researchers via Science Direct.ADNFCR-8000103-ID-800466215-ADNFCR
