Exactech and Statera Collaborate to Design Reverse Total Shoulder Implant

13th February 2024

Exactech and Statera Medical, a medical technology firm, are collaborating to develop the first of its kind, a reverse total shoulder implant.

A reverse total shoulder replacement is a surgical procedure where the positions of the ball and socket in the shoulder joint are switched to enhance the function of the joint in patients with certain shoulder conditions.

The firms have stated they have objectives to develop an implant that could “help surgeons select the correct implant size and offset for a particular patient and provide the best balance of joint mobility and stability for all major joints.”

The implant will provide medical experts with research evidence to deepen their understanding of shoulder biophysical mechanics and soft tissue tension.

The orthopedic shoulder replacement sector is anticipated to expand from a value of about $1.6 billion in 2023 to surpass $2.3 billion in 2030.
