Fast food chains in NHS establishments “worrying”
Allowing fast food chains to sell products within NHS establishments is unwise considering the health warnings being issued by the service, it has been claimed.
These comments come from various health groups following data published by the Sun newspaper which showed that 40 out of 170 NHS trusts rent spaces to chains such as Subway, Starbucks and Burger King.
According to the British Heart Foundation, these figures are “worrying”, while the National Obesity Forum condemned the presence of such outlets in NHS establishments as “disgraceful”.
The Department of Health told Sky News that the health service has a responsibility to lead the way when it comes to encouraging people to make the right lifestyle choices.
“It is for the local NHS to decide which outlets are given space […] but goods or services should not conflict with the ethos and objectives of health and wellbeing,” it continued.
This news comes after the Telegraph reported that slimmers are being given the chance to earn money to diet and keep the pounds off through a pilot scheme run by Weight Wins and the NHS.
