Ferring and Ache Laboratorios Farmaceuticos announce research collaboration
Ferring Pharmaceuticals has announced a new drug research collaboration with the Brazilian pharmaceutical company Ache Laboratorios Farmaceuticos.
The alliance aims to improve the bioavailability, efficacy and safety profile of oral therapeutic medicines through research focused on nanotechnology. Potential benefits in this area include reduced adverse effects, increased patient adherence and more convenient dosing.
A joint research and development centre and programme called the Nanotechnology Innovation Laboratory Enterprise will be established in 2017 as part of this project, to be housed at Ache's research centre in Sao Paulo.
The centre will explore nanotechnology as a delivery system for future medicines through programmes designed to match each company's therapeutic needs. Ferring's focus is on peptides and proteins in reproductive health, gastroenterology and urology, while Ache is seeking to accelerate new therapeutic entity developments.
Alan Harris, senior vice-president for research and development at Ferring Pharmaceuticals, said: "Our collaboration is focused on developing new nanotechnology-based pharmaceutical treatments to solve these challenges and better serve the needs of our patients."
