Ferring offers funding support for March of Dimes Foundation
Ferring has committed $10 million (7.69 million pounds) in funding to support the work of the March of Dimes Foundation in investigating the causes of preterm birth.
The money will be used to support the foundation's network of March of Dimes Prematurity Research Centers, with some of the funding to be spent on creating a new European centre that will partner the existing five US-based facilities.
These centres house around 200 scientists with expertise spanning numerous fields, including obstetrics, neonatology, genetics and genomics, immunology, engineering, informatics, and social sciences.
Ferring and March of Dimes are keen to advance research that can help prevent the 15 million premature births recorded globally each year, as this is the leading cause of death in babies and children under five around the world.
Per Falk, chief scientific officer and executive vice-president of Ferring Pharmaceuticals, said: "This collaboration reinforces our commitment to improving maternal care through scientific innovation and complements our active research programmes in preeclampsia and preterm birth, as well as our recent investments in microbiome research to better understand these conditions."
