FGDP(UK) names transition board ahead of independence move
The Faculty of General Dental Practice (FGDP(UK)) has appointed a transition board to oversee its planned transition into an independent college for general dental practice.
The board is chaired by Professor Nairn Wilson, emeritus professor of dentistry at King's College London, as well as Dentistry magazine consultant editor Kevin Lewis, General Pharmaceutical Council chief Duncan Rudkin, experienced business finance professional Neil Sawbridge, and Dr Mick Horton, dean of the FGDP(UK).
Having been established 25 years ago by the Royal College of Surgeons of England (RCS) as the professional home for general dental practitioners, the FGDP(UK) is looking to become an independent body within the next 12 months.
The RCS will work with the Faculty of Dental Surgery to test and complete the planned changes over the next year. The aim will be to nurture and inspire excellence in UK dental practice, cultivate a strong dental community and drive care quality improvements.
Dr Horton said: "The new organisation aims to provide a collegiate home and professional standing for general dental practitioners and all members of the general dental team."
