The ThermaCare over-the-counter product offered by Proctor & Gamble has been purchased by Wyeth Consumer Healthcare.

Wyeth is expecting to close a deal for the heat wrap within the coming months as it seeks to grow its base business.

Sold in the UK, the US, Canada and various European countries, ThermaCare represents a “strategic fit” for Wyeth’s franchise, according to Cavan Redmond, president of the company.

“We are excited about the brand?s growth potential,” he said.

“Millions of consumers have relied on ThermaCare for consistent, uniform heat to help them be as active as they want to be.”

The product joins a pain management range that includes oral pain reliever Advil.

Earlier this week, Wyeth announced that two hormone therapy lawsuits filed against them had been dismissed.

The cases revolved around the use of its Prempro, Premarin and Provera products.
