GDC appoints Ian Brack as new permanent chief executive
The General Dental Council (GDC) has announced the appointment of Ian Brack as its new chief executive and registrar on a permanent basis.
Mr Brack has served as chief executive of the dental regulator on an interim basis since January 2016, following the departure of Evlynne Gilvarry. He formally took up the post permanently today (May 16th).
He is the previous interim chief executive at the Office for Legal Complaints, where he oversaw significant internal change, while he also led the Olympic Lottery Distributor and played a key role in the delivery of a multimillion-pound grant for the Paralympics.
William Moyes, chair of the GDC, said Mr Brack will help the GDC become "a high-performing, efficient regulator that puts patient and public protection at the heart of everything that we do".
The British Dental Association responded to the news by calling on the new management to take seriously the need improve following recent high-profile failures and controversies surrounding the GDC.
It welcomed Mr Brack's stated commitment to "rebuilding trust" and urged him to back up his words with action.
