GE Healthcare launches new Mavric SL imaging technique

21st May 2013

GE Healthcare has announced the launch of a novel magnetic resonance (MR) imaging technique that can more accurately image soft tissue and bone in patients with joint replacements and other implanted devices.

The Mavric SL technology was developed in collaboration between the Hospital for Special Surgery and Stanford University to reduce image distortion in the regions near MR conditional metal implants.

As such, physicians will be able to clearly see the tissue surrounding an implant when carrying out a diagnosis or defining a course of treatment, without needing to resort to biopsies or exploratory surgery.

Richard Hausmann, president and chief executive officer of GE Healthcare's magnetic resonance business unit, said: "Current MR technology is limited and Mavric SL addresses this major gap in patient care, as the number of procedures requiring MR technologies continues to grow."

Earlier this month, the company revealed that its entire new portfolio of computed tomography products has been developed to meet smart dosing standards laid out by the Medical Imaging and Technology Alliance, without compromising on image quality.ADNFCR-8000103-ID-801588650-ADNFCR
