GE Healthcare MRI system receives eco certification

15th August 2008

GE Healthcare has announced its Signa HDe 1.5 magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) system is the first of its range to receive certification as an ecomagination device.

This means the device has completed the company’s own internal environmental and operational evaluation and is consequently one of the most energy-efficient 1.5T MRI systems on the market.

GE describes its ecomagination certification process as one which underlines its dedication to designing and manufacturing novel technologies that address both the financial and environmental needs of its clients.

It claims the Signa HDe 1.5T uses over 20 per cent less space compared to similar systems to enhance its flexibility.

It also uses around 62 per cent less energy than the previous generation of MR systems through the use of water-cooling technology and efficient gradients.

Jim Davis, vice-president and general manager of the global MRI business at GE Healthcare, said: “We are extremely excited and proud as an MRI business to feature the first ecomagination product for GE Healthcare.”

Earlier this month, GE Healthcare announced the launch of its latest technology in preclinical computer tomography with the introduction of its new GE eXplore CT120 CT scanner.
