GE Healthcare to help combat infant mortality in India

17th December 2010

GE Healthcare is to ally with the social enterprise Embrace in order to distribute products that can help to combat infant mortality in India.

As part of a global partnership with the organisation, GE Healthcare will assist in providing the Asian nation with Embrace Infant Warmers, small products similar to sleeping bags that can help to keep children warm for several hours.

This will help to mitigate the threat of hypothermia, which poses a serious threat to low-birth weight babies born in developing countries and can lead to other illnesses and death.

GE Healthcare states that the scheme ties in with its healthymagination business vision, which is centred on improving access to healthcare innovations.

Carrie Eglinton Manner, general manager for maternal-infant care at GE Healthcare, said: "We're honoured to partner with Embrace in the distribution of its Infant Warmer and have always been passionate about working toward a solution to reduce infant mortality rates."

Last month, GE Healthcare announced that it will be purchasing the medical solutions business unit of technology company Orbotech, a deal which will close in early 2011.ADNFCR-8000103-ID-800298458-ADNFCR
