Geistlich Pharma claims Swiss innovation award for Mucograft products
Geistlich Pharma has received the 2014 IHZ Innovation Award for its pioneering Mucograft and Mucograft Seal products at a ceremony in Switzerland earlier this month.
Presented by the Chamber of Industry and Commerce of Central Switzerland, the accolade is designed to recognise companies that have invested years of research into beneficial products, in cooperation with international partners and clinicians.
The award-winning products were developed for the regeneration of gingiva and provide an alternative to conventional transplants from the patient's palate. They are used primarily to cover exposed root surfaces and cavities after tooth removal.
During the ceremony, Mucograft and Mucograft Seal were both hailed as breakthroughs in gum regeneration. The company said their success is a testament to Geistlich's overall aim of driving quality of life improvements through regenerative medicine.
Paul Note, chief executive officer of Geistlich Pharma, said: "The path was full of obstacles, but brings us a major step forward towards our vision."
During the ceremony, tribute was also paid to former company chairman Dr Peter Geistlich, who passed away in July 2014.
