9th September 2008

The Genetix Group has been awarded a contract by NHS Scotland to develop and introduce a nationwide network of automated cytogenetic analysis systems, it has been announced.

The company, which specialises in cancer diagnostics and biopharmaceutical technology, said the deal will see over 70 of its CytoVision workstations installed laboratories in Aberdeen, Dundee, Edinburgh, Glasgow and Inverness.

Once operational, the workstations will connect the labs to deliver a standardised and automated system for cytogenetic analysis, while also allowing them to share images and information using the NHS Scotland Wide Area Network.

Commenting on the agreement, Genetix’s director of commercial operations in Europe, Simon Smith, said: "We are delighted that Genetix’s CytoVision systems have been selected for a project of such national importance."

Based in New Milton on the south coast of England, Genetix develops and distributes the technology behind cell screening and selection, genetic testing and cancer pathology, protein science, microarraying and cell and liquid dispensing.

It also has operations in Newcastle upon Tyne, Munich and Boston, Massachusetts.
