Gilead Sciences expands research and development SVP’s role

3rd May 2011

Gilead Sciences has announced that Dr Muzammil Mansuri is to be given an expanded role as senior vice-president (SVP) for research and development strategy and corporate development at the company.

Dr Mansuri takes on responsibility for corporate development and alliance management leadership in addition to his existing duties as SVP of research and development strategy.

A former executive of CGI Pharmaceuticals, which was acquired by Gilead in July 2010, he has experience in leading a number of small biotechnology companies, as well as having spent ten years conducting research for Bristol-Myers Squibb.

In his new role, he will help to guide Gilead's research strategies, build alliances and explore new business opportunities for the organisation.

Dr John Milligan, president and chief operating officer of the firm, said: "His broad knowledge of research and clinical development will be instrumental as we evaluate opportunities to partner with other companies and institutions to advance novel therapies in areas of significant unmet need."

Last month, Gilead announced its first quarter financial results for 2011, highlighting a four percent year-on-year increase in product sales.ADNFCR-8000103-ID-800516618-ADNFCR
