GlaxoSmithKline and Pfizer name new ViiV Healthcare chairman

28th February 2011

GlaxoSmithKline and Pfizer have selected David Redfern as the new chairman of the board for ViiV Healthcare, their jointly-controlled specialist HIV subsidiary.

Mr Redfern will take up the role on April 1st 2011, following the retirement of current chairman Julian Heslop.

The newly-appointed executive currently serves as GlaxoSmithKline's chief strategy officer, a role he will continue to fill, while he also ran the firm's European HIV business between 2006 and 2008.

He has been credited with playing a key role in creating ViiV Healthcare in November 2009 and will bring extensive pharmaceutical industry experience to his new position.

Mr Redfern said: "I am looking forward to the renewed challenge as chair of the board for ViiV Healthcare and supporting this highly focused HIV company as it grows over the coming years."

Earlier this month, GlaxoSmithKline was presented with an award by science and sustainability services firm Nalco, honouring its efforts to reduce its environmental impact in recent years.ADNFCR-8000103-ID-800431038-ADNFCR
