GlaxoSmithKline announces executive appointment

GlaxoSmithKline (GSK) has announced the appointment of Deidre Connelly as president of the company’s North American Pharmaceuticals subsidiary.

Taking on the role from February 9th, she will be reporting to the company’s chief executive officer, Andrew Witty.

Ms Connelly has previously worked at Lilly, where she undertook the role of president of US operations, having originally joined the organisation in 1983 as a sales representative.

Commenting on the appointment, Mr Witty noted the subsidiary she will be going into is a “critical component” of the business’s strategy and future performance, which is operating in a very competitive and “rapidly changing” environment.

He added: “Deidre is somebody who truly understands the needs of patients and our customers and can drive the efforts we are making to reshape this business and improve future growth.”

Mr Witty went on to say he looked forward to welcoming her to GSK.
