GlaxoSmithKline appoints new non-executive board member

GlaxoSmithKline has announced the appointment of Dr Laurie Glimcher as its newest board member, effective as of September 1st.

Dr Glimcher has been named as a non-executive director and a scientific and medical expert, and will serve on the company's science and audit and risk committees following her appointment.

She is a current professor of medicine at Harvard Medical School and serves as the chief executive officer and president at the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, where she also works as an attending physician.

The esteemed medical expert was recently awarded the Kober Medal from the American Association of Physicians for her lifetime of achievements in the field of internal medicine, while she has also received the L’Oreal Laureate Award for her discoveries in immunology, and the Marion Fay Spencer award for her commitment to the health sciences.

Philip Hampton, chairman of GlaxoSmithKline, said: "I am delighted Laurie is joining the board. Laurie brings a wealth of expertise in scientific and medical innovation and public health, which will be invaluable to GlaxoSmithKline."
