GlaxoSmithKline reorganises company board
GlaxoSmithKline has announced a series of changes to its board, including the appointment of Manvinder Singh Banga as a non-executive director.
Mr Banga will take up the position on September 1st 2015, before succeeding Sir Deryck Maughan as senior independent director with effect from May 5th 2016. Sir Deryck will be retiring from the board at the conclusion of the meeting.
The new director worked for Unilever between 1977 and 2010, eventually taking on the role of president of the global foods, home and personal care businesses.
Sir Philip Hampton, chairman designate of GlaxoSmithKline, said: "Vindi brings with him many years of experience and a track record of delivering outstanding performance in a highly competitive global consumer-focused industry which will be invaluable to GlaxoSmithKline."
In addition to this appointment, GlaxoSmithKline has named Urs Rohner as chairman of the remuneration committee to coincide with Tom de Swaan's retirement.
Meanwhile, Lynn Elsenhans has been appointed chairman of the corporate responsibility committee, succeeding the the departing Sir Christopher Gent.
