GlaxoSmithKline reports strong consumer health sales in Q3 2017

30th October 2017

GlaxoSmithKline experienced a strong increase in consumer health sales during the third quarter of the year.

The company's consumer health portfolio generated 1.96 billion pounds during the three months, representing a year-on-year increase of five percent, or two percent on a constant exchange rate basis.

The unit was cited as one of the key drivers of GlaxoSmithKline's overall growth, with strong performances from power its brands in the pain and oral health categories offsetting the impact of the sale of its Nigerian beverages business and increased private label competition in the US allergy market.

For the nine months of the fiscal year so far, the consumer division's cumulative sales total has now reached 5.86 billion pounds, representing a year-on-year increase of ten percent. This has helped GlaxoSmithKline to issue confident forecasts for the rest of the year.

Emma Walmsley, chief executive officer of GlaxoSmithKline, said: "Adjusted earnings per share for Q3 were 32.5p and we remain on course for our full-year earnings guidance, with cash generation continuing to improve."
