GlaxoSmithKline tops 2014 Access to Medicines Index

18th November 2014

GlaxoSmithKline has announced that it has once again been ranked top of the biennial Access to Medicines Index.

Measuring the performance of the top 20 pharmaceutical companies on their efforts to improve access to medicines and healthcare in developing countries, the Index has listed GlaxoSmithKline as the top-performing firm on four consecutive occasions.

The company also received the best score on a number of individual criteria, including research and development and management of access to medicines.

Since the last Index in 2012, GlaxoSmithKline has undertaken a number of important projects, such as creating a groundbreaking five-year partnership with Save the Children, submitting a regulatory application for a new malaria vaccine and making improvements to the way it sells and markets products to healthcare professionals.

GlaxoSmithKline chief executive officer Sir Andrew Witty said: "We will continue to push ourselves to go further and faster to make sure our medicines and vaccines reach more people."

The company is currently working to accelerate progress of a promising new Ebola vaccine in order to address the current outbreak in west Africa.ADNFCR-8000103-ID-801760754-ADNFCR
