Goldshield to supply Boots with LipoBind

4th April 2008

Goldshield Healthcare is to provide its new weight management product LipoBind to high street chemist Boots, the company has announced.

It claims that LipoBind, which is made using dried cactus extract, helps to “naturally reduce” the amount of fat the body absorbs from food, which in turn cuts blood cholesterol levels and reduces good cravings.

Clinical trials of the drug have shown two tablets can bind with up to 17g of fat, which is then passed thorough the body. The company says this accounts for around 27 per cent of undigested fat from a standard meal, which would help users reduce their calorie intake by around 150 units.

Used in conjunction with a calorie controlled diet and appropriate exercise, the firm says, LipoBind is an “ideal” aid to achieving a healthy body weight.

A recent survey by Boots discovered that two thirds of respondents were worried about the amount of fat they consume every day.

It added that the typical British diet contains up to 34 per cent fat – 14 per cent higher than the recommended daily amount.

Boots was founded in 1849. It now operates approximately 1,500 retail stores and employs some 63,000 people.
