Government commits to continuation of NHS listening exercise

22nd August 2011

The government has announced the next phase of its listening exercise on the future of the NHS and accompanying reform plans.

Led by GP Professor Steve Field, the independent NHS Future Forum – which comprises many of the UK's top health experts – will be tasked with gathering opinions on four new areas in which the health service could be modernised.

These include accountability in education and training, the role of information in improving health, the benefits of integrated care models and the need to enshrine public health at the heart of NHS operations.

The NHS Future Forum will report its findings to ministers later this year, with feedback from the exercise set to inform future reform policies and approaches.

Prime minister David Cameron said: "I am sure, with their expertise on board, we will be able to deliver the truly world-class health service we're all striving for."

The government published a response to the first wave of feedback from the listening exercise earlier this year, pledging to make changes to NHS reform plans, such as a greater role for hospital doctors and nurses in clinical commissioning.ADNFCR-8000103-ID-800707335-ADNFCR
