Government highlights good progress on PrEP Impact trial in England
Public Health England and NHS England have published an update highlighting the good progress being made in the PrEP Impact trial.
The study, which is evaluating a new prophylactic approach to treating people at risk of contracting HIV, began enrolling its first participants last month and has now signed up more than 1,900 people, all of whom are now receiving PrEP.
More than 35 clinics are now open for trial recruitment, including sites in London, Brighton, Cambridge, Norwich, Leicester, Nottingham, Sheffield, Leeds, Manchester, Liverpool and Durham, with all participating clinics expected to open by April 2018.
With most sexual health clinics expected to take part in the trial, individuals who are interested will be able to enroll at a local clinic when the service is up and running. The government is currently working with clinics and community groups to ensure everyone has the latest information, in order to avoid people travelling long distances to access PrEP.
The PrEP Oversight Board will be meeting again on December 19th, with a further update on the progress of the trial to follow after that date.
