Graphene Project Launched by Manchester and Khalifa Universities

28th November 2022

During a Manchester team’s visit to the United Arab Emirates, one esteemed member of The University of Manchester, and another of Khalifa University, formally signed a partnership contract.

The multinational alliance will aim to hasten the development of Abu Dhabi and Manchester’s world-class study and innovation into graphene, as well as other 2D materials. A tactical investment programme backed by the Abu Dhabi administration includes the Khalifa University-based Research & Innovation Centre for Graphene and 2D Materials (RIC-2D).

Working with Graphene@Manchester should promote the growth of RIC-2D and increasing capabilities in graphene and 2D materials.

The aim of the partnership is to combine the individual goals and objectives of the institutions in a bid to address some of the largest problems facing the world, including supplying clean water to millions and promoting a “green economy” across the globe.

The University of Manchester, known as the “home of graphene,” is where the material was first discovered and where it has since been used to create revolutionary technology.

The money invested will likely go toward collaborative initiatives. In the next months, both the opportunity and cost of the plans covered by this framework agreement will be decided.
