Grifols introduces blister identification system

31st October 2008

Grifols has launched a new automated blister identification and opening tool called BlisPack.

The system, launched at National Congress of the Hospital Pharmacy Spanish Society in Valencia, is designed for use with hospital medications.

It cuts, repackages and identifies medication blisters, which "simplifies the process of packaging medication in unit doses", according to the company. It also "guarantees its correct identification" by using a barcode format which the hospital can define.

BlisPack has the advantage of helping to reduce mistakes in medicine administration by allowing nurses to check doctors’ prescriptions match the medication about to be given.

The system was developed by a multidiscipline team comprising professionals from Grifols Engineering and Grifiols’ Hospital division. It is the first of its kind to be introduced to Europe.

People in science sales jobs may be interested in Grifols’ other products, which include plasma derivatives, diagnostic products for laboratory use and non-biological items for use in hospitals.
