Grifols, which specialises in products and services for use in hospital pharmacies, has launched a new product called BlisPack at the 53rd National Congress of the Hospital Pharmacy Spanish Society.
This is an automated system designed to cut, repackage and identify different medication blisters – and the company said it is the first of its kind in Europe.
It claims to be a useful response to hospital needs, as they have previously had to transform manufacturer blisters into unit sizes manually. In addition, BlisPack cuts the blisters while keeping the original packaging on display.
Grifols intends for the tool to simplify the medication packaging process and ensure correct identification using barcodes and electronic checks.
Although the company now includes hospital and diagnostic divisions, plasma derivatives was its original product line.
Established in Spain in the 1940s, it now includes divisions serving professionals and patients in over 90 countries, with the UK base situated in Cambridge. This was founded in 1979 and operates diagnostics and biosciences departments via more than 35 members of staff.
Earlier this month, Grifols obtained the Australian marketing licence for its intravenous immunoglobin Flebogamma DIF product.
