Haemonetics vice-president wins award

27th October 2009

Haemonetics has revealed that Dr Mark Popovsky, its vice-president and chief medical officer, has been presented with the Emily Cooley Memorial Award and Lectureship by the AABB.

Established in 1963 as a lectureship, the honour is bestowed upon an individual who has demonstrated teaching ability and made major contributions to the fields of immunohematology, transfusion medicine and cellular therapies.

This year, Dr Popovsky has been given the accolade for his outstanding work and its impact upon blood transfusion procedures and research.

He joined Haemonetics in 2000 as its corporate medical director and president of the cell processing division and currently serves on the editorial board of five medical journals.

“The Emily Cooley Memorial Award and Lectureship is an excellent recognition of Dr. Popovsky’s dedication to and impact on the transfusion industry,” explained said Brian Concannon, president and chief executive officer of Haemonetics.

Last month, Haemonetics announced that it has acquired the assets of SEBRA’s blood collection and processing organisation for $12.5 million (7.5 million pounds).
