Health and social care commissioner reappointed

2nd April 2009

Mike Taylor is “delighted” to be reappointed for a further two years as the health and social care commissioner for the north-west and West Midlands.

Since the Appointments Committee was established in 2001, he has held the position and due to his successful history has been asked to stay on, explained the Department of Health.

Through a vigorous process, Mr Taylor will continue to be responsible for ensuring the best possible candidates are recruited as chairs and non-executive directors on national public bodies.

He hopes to work with both the north-west and the West Midlands strategic health authorities to appoint “high calibre” people in these positions to all the trusts across the two regions, he asserted.

Mr Taylor added he will also be working with a number of organisations such as the Health Protection Agency, the National Patient Safety Agency and the National Institute of Innovation and Improvement.

Health minister Ann Keen commented: “Mike Taylor will continue to make an excellent contribution to the development of the commission.”

On average, the group manages around 500 public sector recruitment campaigns a year.
