Health minister opens 50th English GP centre

7th July 2009

Health minister Mike O’Brien has opened the 50th fully-operational GP health centre in England.

A total of 2,629 patients have visited the North Colchester Healthcare Centre in its first four weeks of operation, meaning it has already proved popular with local residents, the Department of Health notes.

Commenting on the opening of the new facility, Mr O’Brien, who is the Labour MP for North Warwickshire, said it will make a “huge difference” in terms of improving access to healthcare for those in the surrounding area.

“The North Colchester Healthcare Centre will offer any member of the public the greater choice and flexibility they want, being able to see a doctor or nurse between 07:00 and 22:00, seven days a week,” he added.

Health checks and treatments for a wide array of conditions – including diabetes, asthma, minor injures and flu – are available at the site, while blood testing and cholesterol checks are also obtainable.
