Henry Schein agrees takeover of Southern Anaesthesia and Surgical

Henry Schein has announced the acquisition of Southern Anesthesia and Surgical for an undisclosed fee.

Southern Anesthesia and Surgical is based in South Carolina and is a leading distributor of anaesthesia and surgical supplies to oral surgeons, dental anaesthesiologists and periodontists in the US.

Offering controlled and non-controlled pharmaceuticals as well as surgical supplies, the company serves approximately 11,500 customers and generated sales of $72 million (57.75 million pounds) in 2016.

Following the completion of the deal, the company will become part of Henry Schein's ACE Surgical Supply division and will continue to be led by its current management team, including president and chief executive officer Bill Alexander.

Stanley Bergman, chairman of the board and chief executive of Henry Schein, said: "We look forward to deepening customer relationships with our comprehensive offering of value-added products and services, including bone regeneration materials that specialty practices need to maintain and grow their business."

The agreement remains subject to regulatory approval and is expected to close in the second quarter of 2017.
