Hill-Rom launches new Envella air-fluidised therapy bed
Hill-Rom has announced the launch of Evella, a new air-fluidised therapy (AFT) bed for the prevention and treatment of advanced pressure injuries.
The bed incorporates a number of improvements and innovations, including increased bead depth, adjustable air flow and sensing technologies, advanced weight-based pressure distribution and an integrated scale.
AFT pushes air flow through a bed of millions of tiny beads, creating a fluid-like environment that aids healing. Hill-Rom's new solution is designed to maximise immersion and envelopment, minimise shear and pressure, and regulate the skin's microclimate.
In a study of high-risk post-op intensive care patients, 40 pressure injuries were sustained by the 25 patients placed on standard surfaces, compared to only one injury among the 27 placed on AFT surfaces.
Use of AFT was also estimated to reduce treatment costs by 88 percent, while another study indicated that AFT healed wounds 4.4 times faster than powered air surfaces.
Paul Johnson, president of Hill-Rom's patient support systems business, said: "The Envella bed's differentiated technology provides an ideal healing environment for the prevention and treatment of advanced pressure injuries."
