Hologic completes acquisition of Cynosure

23rd March 2017

Hologic has announced the completion of its takeover of Cynosure in a deal worth around $1.65 billion (1.32 billion pounds).

The company has acquired Cynosure, a leading developer of medical aesthetics systems and technologies, in order to augment its capabilities in a high-growth area of the medical devices market.

Cynosure offers a broad portfolio of more than 20 products across major categories including non-invasive body contouring, hair removal, skin revitalisation and women's health, selling its products through a combination of direct sales and distributors in over 130 countries.

Its offerings include SculpSure, the first laser treatment for non-invasive body contouring to be approved by US regulators, as well as MonaLisa Touch, a novel CO2 laser for women's health applications.

The firm's chief executive Michael Davin will remain with Cynosure following its acquisition by Hologic.

Steve MacMillan, Hologic's chairman, president and chief executive officer, said: "Acquiring Cynosure, combined with divesting our blood screening business, fundamentally reshapes our business portfolio and makes us a stronger, faster-growing company."
