Hologic highlights benefits of Adiana Contraceptive System

26th November 2009

Hologic has pointed out the benefits of using its Adiana Contraceptive System ahead of a conference at which it will exhibit the product.

Adiana, which is a minimally-invasive procedure, requires no incisions and can be performed under local anaesthesia in doctors’ surgeries, the firm states.

It is designed to offer women an alternative to traditional methods of permanent contraception and those who opt for it can normally return to work within a day.

Adiana was approved by the Food and Drug Administration in July 2009 and is indicated for females who want permanent birth control by occlusion of the fallopian tubes.

Tony Kingsley, senior vice-president of surgical products at Hologic, stated: “As we have learned through numerous patient testimonials, women are undergoing the Adiana procedure to seek relief from the uncertainty and hassle of temporary birth control methods.”

At the beginning of last month, Hologic announced that its ThinPrep integrated imager – which was exhibited at the 35th European Congress of Cytology in Portugal – received the CE mark.
