Hologic launches new Brevera breast biopsy system

1st September 2017

Hologic has announced the launch of its new Brevera breast biopsy system with CorLumina imaging technology in the US.

This new breast biopsy and verification system is designed to increase accuracy with real-time imaging functions that deliver valuable information at the point of care, enabling clinicians to make more informed decisions.

It represents the first and only breast biopsy solution to combine tissue acquisition, real-time imaging, sample verification and advanced post-biopsy handling in a single integrated system, and offers both 2D and 3D breast biopsy functionality.

Since Brevera allows radiologists to obtain and image tissue samples in the procedure room in just a few seconds, it can potentially saving up to 10 minutes per patient, thereby cutting the overall procedure time by up to 25 percent.

Meanwhile, its CorLumina imaging technology automates the tissue sample collection and separation process, allowing samples to be sent for analysis with minimal need for manual handling.

Pete Valenti, Hologic's division president for breast and skeletal health solutions, said: "The Brevera system provides clinicians with more information at the point of care and women with a vastly improved experience, resulting in significant cost and time savings without compromising accuracy or patient health outcomes."
