Hologic receives CE Mark for Panther Fusion system and new assays

Hologic has announced that its new Panther Fusion system and Panther Fusion assays for flu and respiratory testing have been granted European CE Mark approval.

The Panther Fusion module is an in-lab upgrade to the Panther instrument that extends its testing capability, adding the flexibility of polymerase chain reaction techniques to the device's existing transcription-mediated amplification capabilities.

It retains the key benefits of the Panther platform, including fully automated sample-to-result automation, the ability to carry out multiple tests from a single sample, random access sample processing, continuous loading, and STAT capabilities, while introducing higher throughputs and a broader range of functions.

Meanwhile, the new respiratory panel assays include the Panther Fusion Flu A/B/RSV, Panther Fusion Paraflu, and Panther Fusion AdV/hMPV/RV tests, which offer a modular approach to syndromic testing by allowing all three assays to be run from a single patient specimen.

Joao Malagueira, vice-president of sales for diagnostics at Hologic, said: "The addition of the flu and respiratory assays to the broad menu of Aptima tests already available for the Panther instrument further extends the range of diagnostics tests that laboratories can run on one Hologic system."
