Hologic showcases office-based hysteroscopic procedure system

Hologic has showcased a new system which allows non-invasive hysteroscopic procedures to be conducted in doctor's offices rather than in operating theatres.

The science company's new Total Office Solution is being demonstrated this week at an American Association of Gynecologic Laparoscopists conference and offers a comprehensive suite of technologies for use by obstetricians and gynaecologists.

It includes the Adiana permanent contraception system, THS tower-free hysteroscopy system and NovaSure endometrial ablation procedure for heavy menstrual bleeding, allowing simple procedures to be conducted that require only a short recovery time.

Shacey Petrovic, vice-president of marketing for gynaecologic surgical products at Hologic, said the time-saving benefits the Total Office Solution provides will allow medical professionals to attend to more patients.

She added: "We continue to see high demand for minimally-invasive office procedures such as hysteroscopy, endometrial ablation and permanent contraception due to the many benefits for both doctors and patients."

Earlier this month, the company reported positive data from a new five-year study of MammoSite, its multi-lumen radiation therapy system for breast cancer.
