Horiba opens new Montpellier reagent plant

Horiba’s president, Atsushi Horiba, has officially opened the haematology group’s eight million euro reagent plant in Montpellier, France.

Mr Horiba was joined by a number of invited guests for the ceremony, which saw him inaugurate the 4,400 square metre facility.

He said the development of the plant reflected the importance of the medical sector to the business of the Horiba group.

Production is now underway at the unit. When it reaches full capacity, it will more than double Horiba’s annual reagent output to 13,000 tonnes a year.

The facility will also act as a base for Horiba’s design, development and distribution operations, which currently serve 110 countries worldwide through 12 subsidiary firms and a network of over 86 distributors.

Horiba is a blood analysis specialist that sells around 6,000 systems and equips 25,000 laboratories each year.

Formed in 1953 in Kyoto, Japan, the company now has a product portfolio of over 1,000 analytical instruments for different sectors.
