Idexx H1N1 Influenza Virus RealPCR Test ‘proving successful’

23rd December 2009

Idexx has claimed that its H1N1 Influenza Virus RealPCR Test has been performing well when it comes to the detection of the virus in canines.

The firm revealed that a recent case involving a dog at the Katonah Bedford Veterinary Centre saw the test correctly identify the virus before the information was confirmed by a veterinary laboratory.

Idexx’s test was launched earlier this month, after it was revealed that H1N1 can cause respiratory diseases in cats and ferrets.

Jane Robertson, the head of internal medicine at Idexx Reference Laboratories, said: “While there is no evidence these pets spread H1N1 to other animals or to people, this new case confirms the ability of the virus to infect multiple species – including dogs.”

In November, Idexx unveiled an updated version of its Cornerstone Dashboard Report – a free monthly summary that provides at-a-glance insight into the performance of veterinary practices.

New data featured in the product includes top five services and inventory items.
