Idexx Laboratories launches RealPCR reagents for detecting swine diseases

Idexx has announced the launch of a new set of RealPCR reagents to detect viral agents that cause highly contagious and acute diarrhoeal diseases in swine.

Designed to run on the Idexx RealPCR Modular System, the three new disease-specific assays and multiplex assay launched by the company is able to detect and differentiate between a number of different swine enteric coronaviruses.

The new range includes the RealPCR PEDV RNA Reagents for porcine epidemic diarrhoea virus, RealPCR PDCoV RNA Reagents for porcine deltacoronavirus, the RealPCR TGEV RNA Reagents for transmissible gastroenteritis virus and RealPCR PEDV/PDCoV Multiplex RNA Reagents.

They can be run side-by-side on a single plate, maintaining fast run protocols and increasing laboratory workflow efficiency.

Olivier te Boekhorst, corporate vice-president for worldwide livestock, poultry and dairy and Latin American operations at Idexx Laboratories, said: "This testing system gives swine veterinarians and their producers accurate, timely information so they can implement containment strategies and protect their herds."
