Integrated DNA Technologies and Ubiquitome to develop mobile Ebola test
Integrated DNA Technologies has announced a collaboration with Ubiquitome to create a new Ebola test for use in the field.
The Ubiquitome Freedom4 Real-Time RT-PCR Ebola Virus Assay is a rapid test designed to be run on Freedom4, Ubiquitome's handheld, battery powered real-time polymerase chain reaction device.
As part of this collaboration, Integrated DNA Technologies will leverage its PrimeTime qPCR Assay platform to develop an assay that will provide accurate and consistent test results for Ebola.
The instrument operates on battery power alone for up to six hours, while the platform can also be run using an iPhone or laptop computer.
Stephen Gunstream, chief commercial officer of Integrated DNA Technologies, said: "We are excited about how effectively we can combine Integrated DNA Technologies' assay design expertise with Ubiquitome's Freedom4 instrument to provide a field testing service for Ebola virus disease."
The device will be a vital tool in combating the current outbreak, which is the deadliest Ebola epidemic in recorded history.
