Intervet/Schering-Plough changes name to MSD Animal Health

30th June 2011

Intervet/Schering-Plough has been rebranded as MSD Animal Health by parent company Merck Sharpe and Dohme.

The pharmaceutical company is changing the name of the subsidiary as it looks to reinforce the importance of the animal health business to its overall strategy.

MSD Animal Health is a global leader in the veterinary medicines and vaccines sector, generating global sales of $2.9 billion (1.81 billion pounds) in 2010.

Raul Kohan, president of MSD Animal Health, said the company will continue to enhance its position via investment from Merck Sharpe and Dohme.

"We aim to generate additional value and sustained growth by continuing to provide integrated solutions with innovative animal health products and services to meet the evolving needs of our customers," he said.

This change comes after plans to merge Intervet/Schering-Plough with Sanofi-aventis' animal health subsidiary Merial were abandoned earlier this year.

The move, which would have created a new company called Merial-Intervet led by Mr Kohan, was aborted over concerns about the complexity of its implementation.ADNFCR-8000103-ID-800607304-ADNFCR
