Intervet support National Vaccination Month

4th March 2008

Schering Plough and its Intervet business are currently supporting the National Vaccination month as it continues throughout the UK.

March has been designated a month in which vets, as well as Intervet and the PDSA, will focus additional effort on encouraging pet-owners around the country to make sure that their animals are immunised.

As part of the initiative, centres in various parts of the country are offering free vaccination services and as the process continues its importance has been highlighted by reports from the Blue Cross that cases of the parvovirus are becoming increasingly common.

Any unvaccinated dog can pass the virus on very easily to a fellow canine and the Blue Cross is concerned that an epidemic could be caused, UK Pets reports.

Caroline Powley, Blue Cross veterinary nurse manager at Victoria said: “We are very worried about the recent number of dogs coming to The Blue Cross with parvovirus.

“It is heartbreaking to see so many young pets fall victim to this killer disease that can so easily be prevented by a simple injection.”

Earlier this month, research by Cicada was revealed that suggested a majority of veterinary practices in the UK had seen at least one case of parvovirus.
