Invitrogen gives Prodigy system commercial launch

29th June 2009

Invitrogen has announced the launch of a new microarray system for use in immunogenetic testing and human leukocyte antigen research.

The company, which forms part of the Life Technologies group alongside Applied Biosystems, said the state-of-the-art Prodigy system will now be commercially available and will make processes simpler in the field.

Using advanced DNA and protein analysis, the technology can also reduce the amount of time needed to conduct studies in the area of histocompatibility, as well as vaccine creation, drug development and disease association.

Jim Janicki, vice president and general manager of Life Technologies’ transplantation diagnostics business, said the Prodigy system was just the latest offering from the firm that would prove essential to genomic and proteomic work.

"This powerful system provides an end-to-end solution that will help researchers advance their immunogenetic studies," he added.

Earlier this month, the Life Technologies Foundation announced it would be offering up to $2 million (£1.2 million) in grants to various scientific institutions.
