Invitrogen plans $2.5m plant expansion

21st October 2008

Invitrogen is planning an expansion of its plant on Grand Island, New York.

The 21,500 square foot expansion is expected to cost $2.5 million (1.46 million pounds), Buffalo Business First reported. The additional space will house raw materials for drug manufacturing.

Invitrogen’s project received an incentive package from the Eerie county Industrial Development Agency which will save $974,000 (572,000 pounds) in taxes – a deal agreed in a meeting on Monday.

The deal with the county’s development agency follows Invitrogen’s merger with Applera’s Applied Biosystems Group, the news source said.

People in science sales jobs may be interested in the merger, which "will create a global leader in biotechnology reagents and systems", according to the company, producing around $3.5 billion (two billion pounds) in combined sales.

It will also be "uniquely positioned to accelerate and drive new discoveries and commercial applications" with operational, technical and commercial scale, Invitrogen said.
