Invitrogen to distribute Blue Heron’s gene synthesis services

1st November 2007

Invitrogen has become the co-exclusive worldwide distributor of Blue Heron Biotechnology’s custom gene synthesis services.

Blue Heron’s Genemaker platform is noted for its ability to accurately synthesise gene sequences, making it ideal for researchers studying anything from single genes to entire genomes, such as those in the biofuels and synthetic biology markets.

Invitrogen, a provider of life science technologies for research, production and diagnostics, has pointed out that researchers across the globe have increasingly turned to synthetic genes as a convenient, cost-effective alternative for traditional cloning.

"For decades, researchers have depended on Invitrogen’s cloning platforms and gene collections to advance their gene discovery and functional genomics experiments," explained Dr Balwant Patel, general manager for cloning and protein expression at the firm.

"With new technologies that allow the economical production of synthetic genes, researchers can expand the possibilities of science," added Dr Patel.

"Our relationship with Blue Heron means that our customers will explore those possibilities with the best synthetic genetics technologies and the most highly regarded cloning and expression platforms available commercially," the doctor concluded.

Synthetic genes have allowed pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies to speed the drug discovery process by rapidly and accurately synthesising genes, in turn used to produce novel proteins, new vaccines and diagnostics.ADNFCR-1050-ID-18338446-ADNFCR
