Ipsen names new research head and chief scientific officer

18th April 2017

Ipsen has announced the appointment of Dr Alexandre Lebeaut as its new executive vice-president for research and development and chief scientific officer.

Dr Lebeaut has been with Ipsen since 2013, joining the organisation as senior vice-president and chief development officer for global drug development. In December 2016, he was appointed interim head of research and development.

Prior to joining Ipsen, he held several global leadership positions in clinical development and medical affairs with biopharmaceutical organisations such as Axcan Pharmaceuticals, Sanofi, Novartis and the Schering Plough Research Institute.

In this new role, he will continue to lead the transformation of the company's research strategy to help it build a differentiated and sustainable portfolio.

David Meek, chief executive officer of Ipsen, said: "It is my great pleasure to appoint Dr Lebeaut to lead Ipsen's research and development organisation. He brings outstanding medical and leadership experience from global pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies."

This appointment confirms Dr Lebeaut as the permanent successor to former research head Claude Bertrand, who departed Ipsen at the start of the year.
