Ipsen names specialty care head for international region and global franchises

23rd January 2017

Ipsen has announced the appointment of Harout Semerjian as its new president and head of specialty care for its international region and global franchises.

Mr Semerjian can boast more than 23 years of pharmaceutical experience, having spent the last 17 years with Novartis in a series of oncology and specialty care roles of increasing responsibility across the US, Canada, Europe, Middle East and North Africa.

Most recently, he served as a Novartis senior vice-president, spearheading the global launch of the cancer drug ribociclib, meaning he can offer significant leadership experience in the field of oncology.

He will take up his new role at Ipsen on February 2nd, at which point he will join the company's executive leadership team.

David Meek, chief executive officer of Ipsen, said: "He will be a tremendous asset to Ipsen, particularly as we accelerate our growth across markets and strengthen our focus on speciality care and oncology."

Earlier this month, Ipsen agreed a deal to purchase Merrimack Pharmaceuticals' oncology portfolio, giving it access to the multipurpose cancer therapy Onivyde, among other assets.
