Janssen Animal Health sold to Elanco

13th July 2011

Janssen Animal Health has become a part of fellow veterinary medicines company Elanco following the completion of an acquisition deal.

Previous owner Janssen Pharmaceutica has completed the divesture of the business unit to Elanco for an undisclosed fee, completing a sale process that commenced with the unconditional offer made in March 2011.

The transaction sees Elanco, a division of healthcare company Lilly, take full ownership of Janssen Animal Health's products and contracts, as well as related intellectual property and marketing authorisations.

It will also involve the transfer of the new subsidiary's workforce, which spans 11 different countries, in order to assist Elanco in managing its expanded product portfolio.

Commenting on the deal earlier this year, Elanco president and Lilly senior vice-president Jeff Simmons said this will present numerous growth opportunities for the firm.

"We intend to further expand our European presence, bolster our growing portfolio of companion animal medicines and diversify our food animal portfolio with new swine and poultry products," he explained.ADNFCR-8000103-ID-800620803-ADNFCR
